Brian Waldon has left the world this weekend
I remember him very strongly he spoke funny I think he said his R's like Johnny Ross but he was a pretty decent interviewer.

Fucking flabbergasted he was still alive tbh, I thought he was much older.

R.I.P Brian Walden.

I would have thought he'd been long dead by now.

When you look back to '72 it was quite a ballsy thing to do and pick Mountain's Nantucket Sleighride as the theme tune of a politics show. I couldn't believe my ears when I first watched the show. I thought someone must have put the wrong music on.
But Waldon was alright as an interviewer. Better than the likes of Marr.
The king of course though is Brillo. Such a shame he's jacking it in soon.

Branded

Emma is a bit hit and miss. Sometimes she's a typical liberal elite group-thinker.

Then she does a really hard hitting interview and destroys her guest (left or right) without raising her voice.

She's not bad looking either.

RIP

Different times. The interviewees didnt think they were being stitched up and in general interviewers didn’t point out the most glaring hypocrisies. Nowadays it’s just a joust to avoid saying anything of note.

Compare then and now.

We had Brian Walden and Robin Day among others.

Now its Tinsel tits Davies, Toilets Maguire and Toenails Robsinson.

He was a superb political interviewer, tough, persistent and fair, who rarely, if ever, allowed his own beliefs to lead him down the road to bias.

R.I.P. Mr Walden.

I knew I recognised the name but just couldn't picture the man, then I followed your YouTube link and all those Sunday afternoon memories came flooding back and knew exactly who it was.

I used to run in from outside as a kid to switch on the theme tune, crank the volume up on the telly when it came on, then switch it off as soon as he was on.

I'm sure he was probably good but just not very interesting when you were 6.

Re: Brian Waldon has left the world this weekend
His analytical brain combined with a gift for communication and rare generosity in understanding political opponents -- he had previously been a Labour MP -- is what set him apart.

This was his reading of the Thatcher years.

I also thought he'd died years ago. One of the very best political interviewers of all time in Britain.

Re: Brian Waldon has left the world this weekend
Actually his R's were fine he just spoke in a slight Brummy accent and said things with a weird yet enticing drawl.
